Every month one of our community partners tells us about their project or event they are involved in
Congratulations on winning the Hull Daily Mail Pride of East Yorkshire Award, sponosred by KC – were you shocked to win?
Thank you very much. Award was certainly a fantastic surprise for us. We don't do what we do to win awards but it was an amazing honour to be recognised.
You won the award because giving back to the community is at the core of everything you do – tell us a bit about Xing Smoothies?
The Xing Smoothies education part of the organsiation encourages the next generation by raising aspirations and offering practical opportunities. We regularly do talks in schools on employability and entrepreneurship as well as hands on enterprise workshops and setting up the flagship student run smoothie bars in schools programme. This gives students the opportunity to run their own smoothie bar business in school, get paid and the school keep the profits for other potential student run ventures.
What is your greatest achievement to date?
We have recently set up our 15th pupil run smoothie bar in a school so this is a very exciting time for us.
What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs starting out?
Don't be afraid to ask for help. Seek out an experienced business mentor if possible. Be prepared to adapt and change your initial business model or strategy if necessary. Failure is not the end of world but something, which if learnt from, will make you stronger and more successful in the future, so just go for it! Above all be resilient and prepared to work hard. As Edison quoted, it's 1% inspiration 99% perspiration.
