KCOM opens its Community Grants scheme to public vote

Do you run or support one of Hull and East Yorkshire’s deserving charities?

Would a grant of up to £500 help you to carry on your important work helping others?

If so, now’s your chance to apply for a KCOM Community Grant.

Every three months we make three £500 awards available to worthwhile local causes, helping to make life better for many people across the region.

And now, for the first time, in our September awards we’re giving the general public the chance to vote for who gets the money.

We’ll whittle the entries down into a shortlist - and then we’ll turn it over to the public to decide who deserves the money the most.

So if you run a charity or a good cause and have the supporters to back your cause, now’s the ideal opportunity to apply.

Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM’s community coordinator, said: “We love to support local groups and charities that do so much essential work out in the communities of Hull and East Yorkshire.

“For the next round of our Community Grant awards we’re opening the voting process out to everyone so they can choose the charity they think really deserves that extra helping hand.

“You have to be in it to win it though, so make sure you apply for a grant before the entry deadline of Friday, 15 September. Then get as many people as you can to vote for you.”

There is no specific category or type of cause we like to support. Recent grants have supported everything from a Bransholme community centre that needed new stage lights to a charity buying sensory toys for disabled youngsters, a wheelchair basketball team and a gardening club for youngsters.

As long as you’re making a difference we’re happy to help.

The deadline for applying for a grant is Friday, 15 September, and once the shortlist has been announced the voting will continue until Friday, 29 September.
