What do Hull and Aarhus have in common?

2

Innovative 2017 event We Made Ourselves Over links the two cities

Throughout October the people of Hull will have the chance to take a peek into the future.

As part of We Made Ourselves Over, Blast Theory’s innovative sci-fi event, Hull’s distinctive cream phone boxes will all ring in union – inviting those who answer to take a ride into the unknown.

The project will take place both in Hull, the UK City of Culture 2017, and in the Danish city of Aarhus, the European Capital of Culture 2017, joining the two with a series of ground-breaking live events and film screenings.

But what else do Hull and Aarhus have in common? Here are seven things that the two cities share.

  1. Both cities are celebrating being in the spotlight in 2017. Hull as the UK City of Culture and Aarhus as the European Capital of Culture.
  2. Both cities are located on the north east coast of their respective countries.
  3. Hull and Aarhus are similar sizes with populations both in the 260,000s.
  4. The University of Hull and Aarhus University were founded within a year of each other, 1927 and 1928 respectively.
  5. The wind power industry has strong roots in Aarhus, and is an increasingly important player in Hull.
  6. Leading edible oils company AAK UK Ltd employs 300 people in Hull but can trace its roots back to the Danish city.
  7. According to Madness Aarhus is in the middle of our street. There is panic on the streets of Hull according to Morrissey. Neither song is correct.
