KCOM announces summer of Lightstream for east Hull
Nearly 10,000 more east Hull homes will soon have access to ultrafast broadband
KCOM announces broadband rollout for north and east Hull
Another 11,555 Hull homes will be able to order KCOM’s ultrafast internet service before Christmas.
KCOM’s rollout of its Lightstream broadband network is set to reach more than 7,000 homes in north Hull and nearly 4,500 more homes in east Hull before Santa Claus comes calling.
More than 4,000 homes in the HU6 area including Endike Lane, Inglemire Lane and Hall Road will be able to order the ground-breaking full fibre service from 17 October with a further 3,000 properties in streets such as 20th Avenue, 22nd Avenue and The Quadrant able to book Lightstream from 5 December.
Cathy Phillips, KCOM’s chief marketing officer, said anyone wanting full fibre broadband for the best shopping, streaming, socialising and online gaming experience this Christmas should book an installation appointment as soon as possible.
She said: “We’re delighted to be making Lightstream available to even more areas of Hull and we know that demand is likely to be high in the run-up to the festive period.
“With families at home for the holidays, what better way to keep everyone happy than by installing ultrafast broadband that can cope with the demands of modern family life.”
The north Hull rollout is the latest phase of KCOM’s £60m-plus deployment of its full fibre broadband service, which can deliver download speeds of 250Mbps (megabits per second) for residential customers and one Gigabit per second for businesses.
Alongside the new north Hull locations, a further 4,450 homes in east Hull will also be able to sign up for Lightstream before Christmas as KCOM continues its rollout in the area.
Streets including Southcoates and Westminster Avenues will have Lightstream available from 24 October, with Ecclesfield Avenue and Gleneagles Park following on 14 November and areas including Bellfield Avenue and Marfleet Lane launching on 5 December.
Customers who wish to receive advance notification of Lightstream coming to their area in order to book an early installation appointment can register their interest at www.kcomhome.com/lightstream.
By the end of 2017, Lightstream will be available to at least 150,000 properties, equal to 75 per cent of KCOM’s network in Hull and East Yorkshire.
KCOM’s unique investment in ultrafast broadband has been praised by the Minister of State for Digital and Culture Matt Hancock who has referred KCOM’s commitment to full fibre broadband as “the future”.
Last month, independent website Thinkbroadband.com released its latest data on broadband coverage across the UK, with Hull leading on full fibre coverage at 55.6 per cent. This is compared to the national average of just 2.66 per cent.
