A charity that provides essential baby equipment for families in need is the latest group to be awarded a KCOM Community Grant.

Hull-based Bundles of Joy is one of three charities chosen by a public vote to receive one of the IT and communication provider’s grants to help improve life in the region.

The charity will spend its grant on items such as cots, mattresses, sterilisers, baby gates, toiletries and high chairs, which are essential for a baby’s health, well-being and a safe place to sleep.

Bundles of Joy fundraising co-ordinator Samantha Watson, said: “We are so grateful and excited to receive the community funding from KCOM. It means we can now buy essential items for the families in our community who really need them.

“The purpose of Bundles of Joy is to help relieve poverty and offer support to disadvantaged families who have found themselves in need, by providing clothing, toiletries, nappies, toys, prams, cots and other essential baby equipment.

Through the generous donations we receive from the local community throughout Hull and East Yorkshire we are able to help families in need. Whether affected by poverty, crisis, illness or domestic abuse we are here to help."

The other two charities picked to receive a KCOM grant this time are the Special Stars Foundation, which will buy materials for crafting sessions for young people with disabilities, and the Friends of Westcott group, which will buy new sets of guided reading books for Key Stage 1 pupils.

KCOM managing director Sean Royce hailed the grant scheme as a major success after the final shortlist of six charities received more than 1,600 votes.

He said: “I’m delighted that the public have picked three such deserving causes to receive a Community Grant. I hope the grants will help to make a real difference in their local Hull and East Riding communities and I wish them every success for the future.”
