Event to boost next generation of micro business owners

3

An event aimed at encouraging the next generation of young entrepreneurs is to be held in Hull this week.

The Micro Biz Matters Day will be held at KCOM’s Learning Zone, in Carr Lane, Hull, on Friday, January 13, when start-up business owners will be able to share their tips for success.

Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM’s community co-ordinator, said: “We are delighted to be hosting Micro Biz Matters Day for a second year running.

“Events like this are an invaluable resource for young business owners to meet likeminded people and an important launch pad for the successful entrepreneurs of the future.”

As part of the day, Hull will link up with the national Micro Biz Matters Day organisers via Google Hangout for a live Q&A session.

Hull attendees will also discuss what more can be done to support micro businesses in the city and influence policy makers and funders, in a session led by Ross Bennett, chairman of Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership, and City Youth Enterprise Manager Charles Cracknell.

Refreshments will be included.

The event is organised by Enterprise Rockers, a Scarborough-based group created to support young business people.

This will be the second year KCOM has supported the event, following a successful launch in 2016 which attracted 20 young entrepreneurs to take part.

A micro business is a business that employs fewer than nine people.

As part of this year’s event organisers are asking those taking part to donate 13 minutes of their day to help another micro business owner. This can be anything from pledging to buy 13 items from micro businesses in the next six months to spending 13 minutes promoting another micro business or following 13 other micro businesses on social media. Anyone taking part in the initiative can  tweet their actions at the #IGave13 hashtag.

Micro Biz Matters Day will be held at the KCOM Learning Zone, 27 Carr Lane, Hull, from 9.45am to 1.15pm. For more details visit http://microbizmattersday.rocks/
