Event to boost next generation of micro business owners
An event aimed at encouraging the next generation of young entrepreneurs is to be held in Hull this week.
An event to help Hull’s micro businesses thrive is to take place in the city
Micro Biz Matters, a day of networking and advice for businesses with less than nine employees or a turnover of less than £2m, will be held at Hull’s Guildhall on Friday, 11 January.
The annual event, which is streamed live worldwide on social media, is supported by KCOM and aims to give small businesses invaluable tips on how to succeed and grow.
One of the key initiatives from this year’s event is for micro biz owners to donate 11 minutes of their time to help a fellow local entrepreneur.
Micro Biz Matters founder Tina Boden, said: “We’re delighted that Hull, through its work in supporting micro businesses and young entrepreneurs in particular, will be hosting us as part of Micro Biz Matters Day.
“On the day hundreds of thousands of micro business owners – we really hope it will be 1 million – will be giving 11 minutes, or more, of their time to help other micro business owners somewhere in the world.
“The three main areas of focus for #IGave11 minutes of action to help other micro enterprise owners are customers, cash flow and confidence.”
Among the events and workshops planned for the day is a session on digital know how including how to use apps and IT solutions to make your micro business run smoother.
Other events on day include sessions on running family businesses, being a freelancer, how to network successfully and tips for micro manufacturers.
As part of the day, KCOM will be hosting its social media powered vending machine in the Guildhall banqueting hall as well as providing broadband connectivity so attendees can post their experiences of the day online.
Alan Worthing, KCOM’s director of business, said he was delighted to be supporting Micro Biz Matters Day 2019 in Hull.

“Hull’s involvement in this annual day of recognition, action and learning further illustrates our commitment to micro businesses in general - and youth entrepreneurship.
“We are also delighted to be able to welcome the Government’s Small Business Commissioner Paul Uppal to Micro Biz Matters Day.”
Micro Biz Matters will be at the Guildhall, Alfred Gelder Street, Hull, from 7am to 3pm on Friday, 11 January.
