How to get the most out of the internet

Do you need help using the internet or some advice on getting the most out of your computer? If so, support is at hand. KCOM has joined forces with East Riding Libraries to host a series of drop-in sessions aimed at helping people to improve their digital skills. The free sessions, which begin at Swanland Library at 9am on Wednesday, 6 February, are being jointly hosted by KCOM and East Riding of Yorkshire Council and are open to everyone.

The events will be run by KCOM’s community engagement team who will be helping to give people the confidence they need to do more online.

Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM’s community coordinator, said: “We’re delighted to be teaming up with East Riding Libraries to host more drop-in sessions aimed at helping people get the most out of being online.

“The internet can offer a huge array of opportunities but it can be daunting for anyone who doesn’t regularly use a computer. Our friendly volunteers will be on hand to show you, step-by-step, how you can make the internet work for you – whether that’s by doing your shopping online, connecting with friends and family on Facebook, paying your bills or even booking a holiday.

“Whether you just want an internet refresher or are an absolute beginner, our free sessions will be able to give you the skills and knowledge to help you explore new horizons online.

“The previous sessions we’ve held have proved really popular so we’re hoping to see even more new faces at these latest events. Don’t be shy, come along and find out how we can help you.”

The sessions will be held at:

  • Cottingham Library, on Tuesday, 19 February, 9.30am to 11.30am and on Thursday, 14 March, from 9.30am to 11.30am
  • Hedon Library, on Tuesday, 19 February, from 2.30pm and 4.30pm and on Thursday, 21 March, from 10am to 12pm

  • Swanland Library on Wednesday, 6 February, from 9am to 12pm and on Wednesday, March 6, from 9am to 12noon
