KCOM joins forces with East Riding libraries for free get online sessions
How to get the most out of the internet
Do you need help using the internet or a few pointers on getting the most out of computers?
If so, a new series of drop in sessions are being held at libraries across the East Riding aimed at helping people to improve their digital skills.
The free two-hour sessions, which begin at Hessle Library at 10am on Tuesday, 13 March, are being jointly hosted by KCOM and East Riding of Yorkshire Council and are open to everyone.
Councillor Jonathan Owen, portfolio holder for strategic partnerships, said: “Digital skills are essential to get involved in the modern world, from booking holidays, to accessing learning, checking when your bin will be emptied, to renewing your library books – the digital world opens a lot of doors to information and opportunities, and potentially great savings of both time and money.
“We’re delighted to be working with KCOM for this project, and value their expertise in the digital field, and support at a time when funding is more limited for public sector organisations. These sessions help us deliver the digital goals we aim for within the library service.
“Developing digital skills has been at the core of East Riding Libraries and KCOM’s work to ensure everyone has the chance to access the opportunities and information they need. We recognise that partnership working is mutually beneficial and will reach a wider audience than just library users.
“The partnership working will engage people with community-based internet help sessions, offering digital skills as part of a wide-ranging package of activities that East Riding Libraries and KCOM offer.”
The sessions will be run by KCOM’s sales and engagement team who will be helping with all online related enquiries and hopefully encourage people to do more online. After Hessle library, the sessions will move on to Willerby Library at 2pm on Thursday, 15 March, and Swanland Library at 9am on Wednesday, 21 March. After this initial period it is hoped the scheme will expand into other libraries within the East Riding such as Hedon, Haltemprice and Cottingham.
