Looking for ten apprentices to fill cutting edge tech, digital and engineering roles

KCOM has announced it is searching for ten apprentices to fill cutting edge tech, digital and engineering roles.

The Hull-based broadband provider will take on ten new apprentices from September across its IT, network support and field engineering teams and is searching for ten high calibre candidates looking for a launchpad into a highly sought-after industry.

Tim Shaw, managing director KCOM Wholesale and Networks, said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone with a passion for technology who wants to take their first steps towards a rewarding career.

“We’re always looking to help create the next generation of tech experts that our business needs to succeed and, as a local company with a large and loyal local workforce, there are always opportunities to grow and for promotion within KCOM.”

The apprentices will be based out of KCOM’s £2m Customer Service Operations Centre (CSOC) at Salvesen Way, Hull, which opened in 2018 and is now one of the UK’s leading tech service centres.

The closing date for applications is 14 June, 2020.

Two technology apprentices who are already on the path to building a career at KCOM are Abbie Jones and Damian Graczyk, who have recently passed their Infrastructure Technician Level 3 apprenticeships.

Both Abbie and Damian joined KCOM as apprentices in September 2018. Since then they’ve worked in various IT teams in the business to learn new skills while completing their apprenticeship portfolio and exams.

Abbie achieved a distinction in her apprenticeship and is now working as a full-time junior IT engineer within KCOM’s IT support team.

“After leaving school I applied for an apprenticeship at KCOM as it was a big company in the area with a good reputation and opportunities to develop,” Abbie said.

“I really enjoyed my time with the IT support team and found building machines really interesting so I’m happy that I now have a permanent role in the team.”

Damian is now working towards his Level 4 Cyber Technologist apprenticeship within KCOM’s security operations team.

“I knew I wanted to work within IT but didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. The time spent with different IT teams helped me see what roles are available and what I enjoyed doing most,” said Damian.

“I really liked working in the security operations team so decided to stay there and start my next qualification.”

Tim Shaw added: “I’m absolutely delighted for Abbie and Damian who’ve shown great talent and  commitment to pass their apprenticeship exams and become valuable members of our team.

“I know they both have fulfilling and rewarding careers ahead of them. Now we want to find the next Abbie and Damians to set them on the road to future success too.”
