KCOM on the CASE with sponsored walk

2

A Hull charity has gone the extra mile to help raise vital funds by holding a sponsored walk.

CASE Training, which provides training, support and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities, recently held a 600km sponsored walk around Hull’s East Park with its members walking in 600m circuits.

CASE marketing manager Steve Rusling said the walk had been a big success with the cash raised going towards the charity’s forthcoming events.

He said: “We had a brilliant day, the weather was perfect and our trainees really enjoyed taking part in the walk - and many walked far more than we ever expected.

“The money will go toward our trainees’ visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park in September as well as to buying a barbecue so we can hold more events throughout the summer.

“Three of our trainees walked the circuit seven times, that’s 4.2km, which was a sterling effort.”

More than 40 CASE trainees took part in the 600km walk, which is the equivalent of 372.8 miles, and so far they have raised more than £500, with more cash still to come in.

The event was made possible by a grant from KCOM’s Community Grant Scheme which enabled the charity to buy kit and hi-vis vests, water bottles and cones.

Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM’s community coordinator, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support CASE Training which provides such valuable support to people with learning difficulties in Hull.

“The success of CASE’s sponsored walk show they are putting their best foot forward in making Hull and East Yorkshire an even better place to be.”

The annual sponsored walk is just one of CASE’s fundraising events that take place throughout the year. The next major event on the charity’s calendar is its annual gala dinner on Saturday, 14 October.

The dinner, which will be held at the Mercure Grange Park Hotel, in Willerby, will feature a performance from soul singing legends The Three Degrees.

Tickets for the three course meal event cost £49.95 or £475 for a table of 10. For more information call 01482 320200 or visit www.casetraininghull.co.uk
