KCOM announces summer of Lightstream for east Hull
Nearly 10,000 more east Hull homes will soon have access to ultrafast broadband
We have announced the next streets that will benefit from Lightstream broadband this summer
KCOM has announced the next streets that will benefit from Lightstream broadband this summer.
The broadband provider will reach 10,000 more homes and businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire with its ultrafast broadband service by the end of August.
Among them are more than 2,200 properties in the Hessle area, 1,800 homes in streets around Anlaby Road, 2,400 in Beverley Road, nearly 900 in the Boulevard area, 1,100 in Sculcoates and more than 400 in Bransholme.
A further 600 properties in the Newland Park area, where KCOM’s emergency HQ was based during the Second World War to avoid the Hull Blitz, will also be able to order full fibre broadband this month.
Cathy Phillips, KCOM’s chief marketing officer, said: “We are delighted that our Lightstream rollout is continuing at pace and we’re reaching thousands of new properties every month with our UK-leading full fibre broadband.
“We’re now well on the way to completing the final leg of our Lightstream deployment and bringing the benefits of ultrafast broadband to all four corners of our network.”
KCOM announced earlier this year that it is set to make Lightstream available across its network – to more than 200,000 properties – by March 2019.
This will mark the culmination of an ambitious seven year programme during which KCOM’s investment in its Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) network will reach £85m.
Throughout the UK, FTTP is available to just four per cent of households, putting Hull’s homes and businesses decades ahead of the rest of the country.
With KCOM connecting a new customer to the service every 20 minutes, Lightstream enables households to enjoy download speeds of 400Mbps (megabits per second) while businesses can connect at one Gigabit per second. The technology KCOM is deploying will enable even faster speeds to be delivered in the future.
