KCOM teams up with star blogger for Safer Internet Day
KCOM has joined forces with a leading East Yorkshire mum blogger to help keep children safe online.
KCOM has joined forces with a charity that works to improve the lives of Hull’s homeless
A collection by KCOM employees of toiletry products saw hundreds of items – from shampoo to soap and toothpaste - donated to the Hull Homeless Community Project (HHCP) which works with dozens of people affected by homelessness.
Four baskets of products were collected by people at KCOM offices across the city which will now go to helping those in need.
Andrew Smith, HHCP founder, said: “We need toiletries to help our service users and they will be very much appreciated. But, as well as that, to think that a company like KCOM recognises the work that we do and is willing to put in the effort to help us is a testament to the work that our volunteers do.
“KCOM is such a big company that I’m sure they have a million other things they could be doing, but the fact they’ve helped us is really heartening.”
The HHCP was set up in 2010 and was officially granted charity status in May, 2016. It is an official charity partner of Hull 2017 City of Culture.
As well as offering outreach services to Hull’s rough sleepers such as providing food, hot drinks and advice, the charity also runs a Sunday social club where it serves hot meals. It also provides a companion programme partnering volunteers with those in need of support.
Andrew added that in City of Culture year it was important that the city strives to improve the life of everyone in Hull.
He said: “It’s about how we can make 2017 just as special for people suffering from homelessness as it is for the rest of the city - and how we can work with businesses like KCOM to integrate everyone back into the community.
“That’s an important part of people’s recovery process to know that there willing to help. It makes a huge difference to people trying to reintegrate into society.”
Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM community coordinator, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have helped Hull Homeless Community Project, which is a brilliant charity doing really important work in Hull.
“This is the seventh year we have held a toiletry collection for charity and we hope it will go towards making lives of those in most need a little better.”
