KCOM has connected its first full fibre broadband customer in Driffield
KCOM has welcomed the 40,000th customer to sign up for its Lightstream broadband service.
Teri Harrison, 27, of Stonebridge Avenue, east Hull, became the 40,000th householder across Hull and East Yorkshire to benefit from ultrafast broadband after having the service installed last week.
The installation marks a major milestone for the £60m rollout of Lightstream which can deliver download speeds of 250Mbps (megabits per second) for residential customers and one Gigabit per second for businesses.
Ms Harrison said that she was delighted to be the 40,000th person to sign up for service, adding that she would now be taking advantage of her unlimited ultrafast internet access.
She said: “Like everyone else these days I do a lot online. I do internet shopping, play Xbox One Live, keep in touch with my family on social media, download games for my three year old nephew and do a lot of research online too.
“I’m hoping to pass my driving test soon so I’ve also been looking online for car insurance quote. So much of what we do is now online that it’s just a way of life. You need to be online.
“Since I’ve had Lightstream installed it’s been brilliant. I’ve got an unlimited package, so I keep having my family popping around to use it and everything’s so fast. It’s really good for online gaming.”
Lightstream will be available to 150,000 properties, equal to 75 per cent of KCOM’s overall network in Hull and East Yorkshire, by the end of 2017. This will cement Hull’s claim to be the ultrafast capital of the UK.
Hull is the only city in the UK where ultrafast Fibre To The Premises technology is being rolled out as standard.
