The internet can be an amazing place full of bright new horizons and exciting opportunities.
In this digital age there is so much we can do online – whether that’s keeping in touch with friends and family on Facebook, streaming our favourite TV shows or even just paying our bills.
But if you don’t use a computer regularly the prospect of getting online can be a daunting one. What equipment do you need? How do you connect to the internet? And once you’re online how do you find the websites you need?
But don’t worry - if you don’t know the difference between a search engine and a Skype call help is at hand.
If you could do with a few pointers KCOM hosts free Get Online sessions on the first Tuesday of every month at its Learning Zone in Carr Lane, Hull. The sessions, which are open to all, run from 9.30am to 11.30am and have experts on hand to give some helpful hints on getting the most out of the internet.
If you can’t make it to Carr Lane, KCOM has also teamed up with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to host a series of free Get Online sessions at libraries across the region.
During the next month sessions will be held at Withernsea, Driffield and Market Weighton libraries. For full times and dates see below.
Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM’s community coordinator, said: “We’re delighted to be teaming up with local libraries once again to host more drop-in sessions aimed at helping people get the most out of being online.
“Our friendly volunteers will be on hand to show you, step-by-step, how you can make the internet work for you – whether that’s by doing your shopping online, connecting with friends and family on social media or even booking a holiday.
“Whether you just want an internet refresher or are an absolute beginner, our free sessions will be able to give you the skills and knowledge to help you explore new horizons online.
“The previous sessions we’ve held have proved really popular so don’t be shy, come along and find out how we can help you.”
