Contract won to continue working on KCOM's expanding network

Telecommunications infrastructure provider Light Source is delighted to announce it has secured the contract to deliver the expansion of KCOM’s full fibre network to homes and businesses in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

This follows the announcement earlier this year that East Yorkshire-based KCOM is investing £100m to expand its award-winning full fibre broadband network beyond its traditional boundaries to tens of thousands more homes and businesses.

Steve Hill, Light Source Managing Director, said: “This is a major award for our business, and one that we are very proud of.

“Our long partnership with KCOM demonstrates there are no limits to what we can achieve together and we look forward to being a loyal servant for many years to come. We would like to thank all parties involved in the contract negotiations and the faith that KCOM has shown in our organisation.”

Light Source played a major role in the completion of KCOM’s fibre network rollout to 200,000 properties across Hull and East Yorkshire last year, and the new contract further highlights the continued close partnership with KCOM, and the region, with the creation of many job opportunities.

Light Source currently employs more than 60 staff in East Yorkshire, most of them in a variety of highly-skilled installation and engineering roles. The company injects around £1.5m annually into the local economy through direct employment, payments to sub-contractors, buying services and materials, sponsorship and other expenditure – all as a result of its work for KCOM.

Tim Shaw, managing director of KCOM Wholesale & Networks, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering once again with Light Source to bring the benefits of full fibre broadband to thousands more homes and businesses across the region.

“Light Source has proved to be an integral part of our plans to expand our network to many new destinations in East Yorkshire and its quality of work and professionalism, provided by local people, means that the next stages of our full fibre rollout will no doubt continue to be equally successful.”
