KCOM has unveiled a new initiative that will unlock valuable funding for local community organisations, groups and clubs.

Every new customer who signs up for KCOM’s award-winning full fibre broadband in Driffield, Market Weighton and Nafferton can now nominate a local community group for a £50 grant from the KCOM Community Chest.

John Rooney, KCOM Retail managing director, said: “We’re delighted to be launching the KCOM Community Chest which will enable groups doing great things in their local communities to access vital funds.

“It’s a win-win situation. New customers to our ultrafast full fibre Lightstream broadband will be connected to one of the UK’s fastest and most reliable networks, enabling them to stream, surf and download better than ever before, while at the same also supporting vital local community groups.”

It’s easy to take part in the new scheme.

Once registered, new customers signing up to a Lightstream broadband package will be able to nominate a local organisation. The organisation will then be eligible to claim a £50 KCOM grant for each new successful referral.

One of the first groups taking part in the scheme is Driffield’s All For One Choir – part of a network of non-audition singing groups opening up the joys of singing to communities across East Yorkshire.

Choir founder Helen Garnett said: “It’s great to be part of the new Community Chest scheme. We felt it would be a great way to reward our choir members by channelling any money we raise back into raising more funds for our charity of the year, which is MIND.

“It’s such a great idea as any community loves an opportunity to raise funds to support their projects and bond over a purpose. Having great broadband through fibre will be an absolute game changer for our choirs in East Yorkshire. It will hugely enhance our current virtual choir experience. We are so excited to be onboard with a great company.”

There’s no cap on the number of new customers who can refer a local group – for example, if 10 new customers refer a group it can generate £500 of funding.

Local clubs, groups and charities are also being urged to remind their supporters that if they are planning to upgrade to Lightstream to remember to nominate them for a Community Chest grant.

But only a limited number of groups can take part each month, so if you’d like your group to be involved please get in touch quickly.
