Five apps to help you get fit

2

Getting fit has never been easier thanks to the latest handy apps and health trackers.

Staying motivated and being active can be quite tricky in the modern world, as many people find themselves too busy or time-restricted to be able to regularly workout. However, with these apps at your fingertips, you can stay on track of your exercise and achieve fitness goals with ease.

  1. MyFitnessPal

Possibly one of the most popular fitness apps, MyFitnessPal encompasses meal planning and exercise tracking. By keeping a regular food diary, you can see exactly how many calories you’re consuming, alongside stats on some of the key food groups you are getting every day.

It also advises on your nutritional intake, such as proteins, carbs, salt and sugar. MyFitnessPal comes with a handy feature too, allowing you to scan food packaging barcodes for quick and fuss-free monitoring.

MyFitnessPal is available on Google Play and the App Store for free.

  1. MapMyWalk

Walking is an easy way to keep active and this app enables its users to map and measure routes using the phone’s GPS signal. After a long hike or even just a stroll to the shops, you can view the speed at which you stepped, as well as the calories you burnt.

Get MapMyWalk for free on Apple and Android devices.

  1. Strava Cycling

If you love hopping on your bike, Strava Cycling is the application for you. Similar to MapMyWalk, the clever tracker measures the distance you have travelled, along with your elevation and speed.

Nonetheless, what sets it apart from the rest is the connectivity with fellow cyclists. You can see and compete with other people who have peddled the same route.

Strava Cycling is completely free on Android and iOS phones.

  1. Couch to 5K

This nifty little app from the NHS can transform you from a couch potato to a confident runner in just nine weeks. The walking, jogging and running programme gradually increases fitness by reminding you to train three times a week, with a variety of sessions to choose from.

Couch to 5K app is free on both iOS and Android.

  1. Pocket Yoga

Yoga can be extremely beneficial for the body and mind, but many people want to avoid the inconvenience of heading to an actual yoga class. Now you can do it in the comfort of your own home or even at the office with Pocket Yoga.

Select one of 27 routines, which all have audio and visual prompts to get you into the zone.

Pocket Yoga is available for £1.99 on Apple devices and £1.89 on Android.
